Discovering the Chinese Garden at Biddulph Grange
Come and discover the history behind the creation of the Chinese garden at Biddulph Grange. David Alcock, long time volunteer at this National Trust property, takes us through the sources that might have inspired the Batemans in their unique creation, and asks “but how authentic is it?”
There will also be the chance to see two rare videos on creating the Biddulph Grange Gardens, courtesy of Ray Johnson of the Stoke Film Archive.
The first is a short film on the gardens filmed before they were restored in 1987. It gives information on James Bateman and his plans to collaborate with Edward Cooke on creating the garden.
The second short film is one taken by The National trust in 1988 at the time of the restoration work, and again comes by courtesy of Ray Johnson of The Stoke Film Archive.
Masonic Hall, 7pm. £4 on the door.
